How Gutter Vac Cleaning Works (And Why Ladders Aren't Needed)

6 min read

Blocked gutters cause damp walls, stained brickwork and water pouring over the edge every time it rains. A gutter vac clears them from the ground — no ladders leaning on your guttering or conservatory roof.

What a gutter vac is

A gutter vac is an industrial-strength vacuum connected to lightweight, extendable poles. The poles reach gutter height from the ground, and the vacuum sucks out leaves, moss, silt and debris straight into a collection drum.

Because the work is done from the ground, there's no ladder resting against the gutter itself, which is often where cracks and leaks start.

Signs your gutters need clearing

  • Water spilling over the front of the gutter in heavy rain
  • Plants or moss growing out of the gutter line
  • Green or dark staining on the brickwork below
  • Damp patches appearing on inside walls or ceilings
  • Downpipes that gurgle, overflow or don't drain

Why blocked gutters matter

Overflowing water soaks into brickwork and can lead to penetrating damp, damaged render, rotten fascias and even ground saturation near foundations. In winter, trapped water freezes and expands, cracking joints and pulling brackets loose.

How the job is done

  • The gutter runs are vacuumed clear from the ground
  • Downpipes are checked and cleared where blocked
  • Leaking joints, sagging sections and loose brackets are noted and can be repaired
  • Debris is taken away with us

How often should gutters be cleared?

For most homes, once a year is enough — late autumn after the leaves have fallen is ideal. Houses near large trees may need clearing twice a year, in spring and autumn.

Common questions

Do you need to come into the house?
No. Gutter vac cleaning is done entirely from outside at ground level.
Can you clean gutters above a conservatory?
Yes. Because we work from the ground with extendable poles, we can reach gutters behind conservatories without putting weight on the roof.
Do you repair leaking gutters too?
Yes. Leaking joints, sagging runs and loose brackets can be repaired as part of the visit.
